Understanding attachment styles

Many people become curious about attachment styles when they notice familiar patterns in relationships, emotions, or how they respond under stress.

You might feel anxious about closeness, uncomfortable relying on others, very self-critical, or unsettled even when life looks “fine” on the outside.

Attachment theory offers a way of understanding these experiences with curiosity and compassion, rather than judgement.

Attachment styles aren’t labels or diagnoses. They describe patterns of coping and relating that developed for a reason, often long before we had words for what was happening.

This guide offers a gentle introduction to the main attachment patterns, how they can show up in adulthood, and why understanding them can be helpful.
